One would think that after thirty or so years of having his ability and learning to control it, that Benny could properly contain it when the need came. One would hope to assume that when push came to shove, that Benny didn’t uproot entire buildings or flipped rooms upside down when he was in emotional turmoil, but the sad fact was that… none of that was true.
It was a sad truth, but Benny’s abilities were sadly very handled by his emotions. When he was upset, things began to float. Whenever Sofia had an accident, whether it be her falling over, hitting her head, or skinning her knee, things would lose their sense of gravity and slowly, their home would just be upended. Last night had been no exception, Benny was just forced into it. The best option for this situation was to detach himself from it, like he used to do with his father.
He couldn’t explain his momentary lapse in his power (actually, if he thought about it, he probably could explain how the effect of the Blood Moon had affected his powers, and, by extension, most likely everyone else’s), but Benny’s thoughts weren’t on that. He had uplifted more than one building on the campus grounds (mostly the Staff Boarding building had felt his wrath, and he wasn’t exactly proud of that), and now his entire apartment was basically upside down, his bed floating high above him and he was waking up on the carpet, confused and not remembering right away what had happened.
And then he did.
The migraine pounded into his head and he stood up, not bothering to fix his clothes or his tie, and glanced out the window. The guilt came to him quickly and he wanted to throw up, but decided against it, instead grabbing a glass of water from a glass that was still mostly in full form and not shattered and floating throughout the air. He hoped that everyone else’s rooms were still in most decent order, but something inside of him told him to not even consider it.
Rory Fletcher’s prized Kate Fletcher Tea Set was probably in tiny little pieces, and it was all his fault.
Something about his bones didn’t quite feel right either, and a test of gravity made him realize that for once in his life, Benny was feeling normal gravity, the same type of gravity that everyone else felt all the time. He wondered to himself how people handled being this heavy all the time, before deciding to skip breakfast and attempt to get some work done. His migraine sparked in his head and he attempted to ignore it and the sick feeling deep inside of his gut, but there wasn’t much he could do over it.
The gravity pounding against him only seemed to harden and he found himself falling over back onto the very carpet that he had woken up on, looking up at his floating furniture and wondering if they were all going to fall him and he was going to be crushed to death. He decided he didn’t like feeling gravity against him, but the attempt to make his own center of gravity disappear was a failure.
…. Hmmm. Interesting.
If anything, this was going to be an interesting science project. He managed to get himself to roll over and he crawled over to where his bag was floating just three feet above the ground. Benny then managed to get himself up to a sitting position and dig through it to find his phone, where he texted the first co-worker on the list to ask for assistance because he couldn’t walk properly.
Then he fell over again.
