Xiu Lan listened carefully, taking up every little piece of information about the strange man who had so suddenly stepped into what had always been a completely private situation. If he were to murder him on the spot, he at least wanted to be able to know, if just for himself, that he saw through what the stranger was trying to do before it happened. It would've made for one last moment of satisfaction that Xiu Lan so desperately craved day after day. So he was a teacher. Now it wasn't as if the boy paid too much attention to the people in the academy, so the man might as well have been a teacher there. He shook his head, softly. That wasn't necessarily what he meant by his question, but during the timeframe it took the boy to gather enough energy to to correct himself, the stranger already seemed busy readying a cigarette.
After the man asked for a light, the slightest change in Xiu Lan's face was visible. The expressionless, almost mask-like features of the boy moved to showcase something similar to surprise, his eyes opening a little more, and his frowning lips opening ever so slightly as the other's face moved closer to his, seemingly without fear of what flames were capable of. He stopped paying attention to the trashcan, partly to concentrate on the task at hand, partly because there was something exciting about an uncontrolled flame as well. A pale hand moved up to the tip of the cigarette, a bony finger extending, shaking slightly, before a couple of barely noticeable sparks lit the tobacco.
He gulped, finally wiping the saliva off his chin. "What...what I was trying to say...what do you..." Looking around for something to show what he was trying to show, he knealt down and picked up a stray piece of paper. Standing up again, he pointed at it with his free hand, just to have it go up in flames and have the remains flow away. "do?"
